Turkey, Somalia ink Joint Labor Commission First Meeting Protocol

(MENAFN) Türkiye and Somalia have officially put into effect a new cooperation framework by signing the “Türkiye-Somalia Joint Labor Commission First Meeting Protocol and the 2026–2027 Action Plan,” as stated by reports citing an official ministry announcement.

The inaugural session of the Joint Labor Commission took place in Ankara, marking the first formal meeting under this mechanism.

On the sidelines of the session, Türkiye’s Minister of Labor and Social Security, Vedat Isikhan, held talks with Somalia’s Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Salim Alio Ibro, along with members of the Somali delegation.

According to statements made during the meetings, the newly adopted protocol and action plan lay out a broad and long-term cooperation agenda. The areas covered include labor inspection systems, occupational health and safety, improved governance of labor migration, vocational education, and the establishment and development of national occupational standards.

After holding a one-on-one meeting with his Somali counterpart, Isikhan presided over expanded discussions at the delegation level.

During his remarks, the Turkish minister highlighted his satisfaction with the steady deepening of relations between the two countries across a wide range of sectors, emphasizing that bilateral ties have gradually taken on a strategic character.

Expressing optimism about the upcoming phase of collaboration, Isikhan said: “As a ministry, we attach great importance to sharing our experience with the Somali side in matters within our mandate, and we aim to strengthen our cooperation in these areas.”

He further noted that the 2026–2027 action plan is designed to advance existing cooperation, widen its scope, and establish a robust and lasting legal framework to facilitate the mutual exchange of information, documentation, and expertise between the two ministries.
